Four thousand feet up and your legs finally stop shaking. Someone’s got the stove going, tea steeping slow in a dented tin cup, steam curling off into the cold air. Jerky in your pocket, a stick of stolen cherry bubblegum going soft in your cheek, boots still caked from the last stretch of trail. Somewhere below, cocoa beans dry in the sun outside a village stall, and the smell rides up with the wind.
Notes of dried plum skin, peppercorn, and cured leather.
